Call for Academic Papers

Researchers from all universities are invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2026 GWTTRA Annual Conference.

The conference welcomes tourism researchers, hospitality scholars, destination professionals, and graduate students from across the Western United States and around the world. Whether your work is theoretical or applied, we encourage submissions that advance knowledge and strengthen the connection between research and practice.

Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, so authors are encouraged to submit early.

Submission Requirements

Please submit the following two documents:

  • Title Page including the paper title, author names, and institutional affiliations.
  • Anonymous Abstract of 300 to 600 words (excluding figures, tables, and references). The abstract should not include author names and should be prepared using a 12 point font, either single or double spaced.

GWTTRA Submission

Presentation Format

Accepted research will be presented in an interactive coffee break poster session designed to encourage discussion between presenters and conference attendees. This format provides excellent visibility and opportunities for meaningful conversations across academic and practitioner audiences.

Authors who require a formal presentation format for university requirements should contact the Academic Chair to discuss available accommodations.

Research Topics

Submissions are welcome across all areas of travel, tourism, and hospitality research.

Both theoretical and applied research are encouraged, with particular interest in studies that provide practical value for destinations, tourism organizations, policymakers, and industry professionals.

Previously published or previously presented work may be submitted, provided it is the author’s original research. Research in progress is also welcome.

Student Immersion Program

GWTTRA is launching a new Student Immersion Program designed to introduce graduate students to the tourism research profession through conference participation and professional networking.

Selected students will receive complimentary conference registration along with lodging support to attend the conference and connect with tourism researchers and industry professionals.
