2026 TTRA Think Tank on Data Gaps in Diversity and Travel

The Travel and Tourism Research Association is pleased to announce a new 2026 Think Tank focused on diversity in travel, examined through a rigorous quantitative and qualitative lens.

This initiative will center on a critical and timely question:

What is not currently being measured or well understood when it comes to diversity in travel?

As the travel and tourism industry continues to prioritize inclusion, equity, and representation, there remains an important need to identify where meaningful data gaps exist. What fact-driven insights are most needed by practitioners and academics to better inform strategy, policy, investment, and future research?

About the Think Tank

This Think Tank will bring together academics, destination leaders, vendors, and research professionals to collaboratively:

  • Identify and prioritize unanswered questions related to diversity in travel
  • Define where current data limitations restrict progress or clarity
  • Explore pathways to access, create, or assemble new data sources
  • Develop a practical blueprint for future collaborative research between academia and practice

The initiative is envisioned as a two-stage effort:

Stage One: Identify, define, and prioritize the most pressing data gaps and research questions.

Stage Two: Explore practical pathways to close those gaps, including partnerships, new methodologies, and shared data strategies.

A dedicated session at the 2026 TTRA Annual International Conference will provide an opportunity to share findings, frameworks, and next steps with the broader TTRA community.

Who Should Participate?

We welcome participation from:

  • Academic researchers
  • Destination marketing and management professionals
  • Industry partners and data providers
  • Policy leaders and consultants
  • Emerging scholars interested in diversity research

This Think Tank reflects TTRA’s commitment to thought leadership, inclusive and collaborative relationships, and advancing research that creates positive impact on people, places, and society.
