ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, OUTDOOR RECREATION AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM) in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources to start August 16, 2026. We seek an accomplished and creative individual to conduct research, teach, and provide service consistent with our interdisciplinary programs at the intersection of outdoor recreation, tourism, natural resource management, and community development. 

This position is a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program in outdoor recreation, tourism, or related fields; publish in high-impact outlets; contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship; teach undergraduate courses in ORTM and/or in our online and in-person Master of Science in Environment, Natural Resources, and Society programs; and mentor graduate students.

  • A terminal degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated research agenda and scholarship related to the ORTM field, and
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Valid driver’s license

We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary and applied teaching and research; strong communication and relationship-building skills; and the ability to contribute to the advancement of the Haub School’s mission and vision. Preferred candidates will have academic experience in the outdoor recreation field through past teaching, participation in interdisciplinary programs, and/or experience working with stakeholders from different backgrounds including those from rural or urban communities with fewer financial and political resources.
