Our world is awash in behavioral digital data, enabling us to understand how travelers behave online during their trip planning and booking process. This means new market research opportunities. Participants will learn how passive digital data can be used to augment traditional survey data to lead to greater insights into the travel planning and booking process.
Annie Pettit will share results from a research study with 1000 nationally-representative consumers who shared their opinions and perceptions of artificial intelligence, and how they feel it will impact their lives. More importantly, using examples from chatbots to voice search and privacy, she will share insights into how these perceptions will impact our research activities.

Not in our wildest dreams did we imagine a decade ago, that providers of short-term accommodation will regularly refuse to sell rooms to tourists despite having a vacancy; that thousands of tourists and residents displaced due to a cyclone or an earthquake are offered emergency accommodation in people’s homes at no cost with one click of a button; that tourist accommodation will compete with residential rental properties; or that facilitators of online trading platforms will use their direct access to millions of people around the globe to push for societal changes, such as marriage equality. This presentation will take you on a journey along the boundaries peer-to-peer accommodation networks are pushing.
