Hello TTRA Members,
Welcome to TTRA’s 50th Year of being, and a very big welcome to all of our new members.
We have come a long way since that first meeting in Monterey, California in 1970. We now have chapters in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and as the first President from the Asia-Pacific region, I am humbled to be part of this very important year.
We kicked off our 50th year in June in Melbourne, Australia with a highly successful conference around the theme of “Navigating Shifting Sands: Research in Changing Times”. But, we are more than a ‘one-conference association’ with the second iteration of our DMO Research course being held this year in Wichita Kansas on September 18, 2019, in conjunction with the CenStates Chapter conference. The Marketing Outlook Forum is coming up in October, along with all of the various chapter meetings and conferences that provide our broad membership with a range of ways to engage. We also have our webinar series and are currently working on other projects that will add value for our members. As we move into more uncertain times, undertaking and applying research becomes even more crucial for the continued success of travel and tourism.
We are also moving forward with our efforts to become not only a carbon-neutral as an organization but potentially carbon-positive.
In June, we farewelled some of our most committed Board Members, Marion Joppe, Wendy Kheel, and Duane Vinson and welcomed our incoming members, Lynne Coxwell, Statia Elliot, and Robert Li, along with Esra Calvert and Erin Francis-Cummings who are returning for another term. We are a working Board and have a range of expertise to draw on, but if any members wish to become more involved through a committee, please contact us. We are only as strong as our members and need your engagement…
I look forward to welcoming you all at the 51st Annual Conference next June in Victoria, BC, Canada, where we will be officially celebrating 50 years of TTRA with special events and activities as well as our usual strong research conference. Our chapters are also planning celebrations and various activities to celebrate this milestone over the next 12 months, where I also hope to see you.
I wish you all happy and meaningful days
